OBSERVING PYP 1B- Reader's and Writer's Workshop (Literacy Blog entry)

Obraz
HELLO, After the intensive summer camps I am continuing my internship with the "real" classes! I am excited to share my experiences with you. I am observing the PYP 1's (Primary years programme) in IB school. It was very exciting for all of us because the children have made a huge step from kindergarten to the PYP 1, which was stressful for them because it was play-based and now they need to make enormous steps at the school with classes. I was lucky that I had the chance to observe them from the first week of school as they were assigned to the classrooms.  The first thing I want to say is that, all the kids welcomed me very warmly, I think I am going to miss them.. The first thing that have impressed me is classroom management, I have been studying this topic during my first year and most of the things were in that classroom, including both physical and mental. The class had the routine, which I realized in practice is very important for the kids, to what to expect. Th...

Week 5,6 and 7!

Obraz
I am back with the posts for the summer camp, here I will briefly explain the last 3 weeks and what we have done. Week 5 was Wildlife in the city camp, where I have worked totally with a new teacher, who probably thought that I am a professional teacher and acted like it so I felt bad, because she gave me tasks and left me alone with the kids, which other teachers did not allow to do, but then I have informed her so she does not think I am a bad teacher XD In this camp we explored, wildlife in the city and visited parks and green areas. We have spent most of the time picking-up the trash and raising awareness of the children to save the nature. At the first day we have done an insect-house, which was very fun! Other days we have done a bird-feeder and also collected flowers, leaves and different kind of materials that can serve as a paint, so at the end of which we can paint our drawings with the natural paint. In this camp we had mostly older kids, which was easier for the teache...

Week 2,3 and 4 !

The reason I am taking these three camps together is because I have worked with the same teacher so the approach to the students was the same, however kids and the content of the camps were different. The second camp was Sports, where we had field trips to the pitch nearby the school and most of the students were boys, in this camp there were 2 students, brothers who had weak English and the younger one did not speak at all, there I told myself that I can observe them during these weeks and it was a different experience for me because almost all of the students are very fluent in English. But by mimicking and using hand gestures and asking him to repeat made a progress at the end of the camp. The content of the camp was mainly sports, where kids played different games, but the most favorite one was " longball " which is a Danish sports-   described as a hybrid of  baseball  and  cricket . I have noticed that every teacher has a different approach, Mrs.Rashmi,wh...

Week 1- Nature Explorers!

Obraz
Whoah... The camp started on the 27th of June, I've missed the first day because I had an exam on that day, after I asked my mentor about the day, he said that it was an introductory day so they went to the nearby forest and played games to get to know each other. I think, I understood at that moment that the very first day is very important for both kids and the teacher. Second day: The camp gathering started at 8:30 but the program starts at 9:00, I came in a rush at the exact time and saw a huge line of 24 children. This was one of the most crowded camps, we were 2 support teachers and 1 camp-leader who is a very energetic person and keen on nature. We were heading to Charlottenlund area,  our first stop was the train station , we were going as a long slimey group :) one of us at the front, other in the middle and one at the back. The reason we were not in the same tempo is that children from 6-12 are allowed to the same camp, however they have different interests, knowled...

SUMMER INTERNSHIP

Hello everyone, I hope you've missed my blogs... now I am back with my unpublished experiences from my summer internship which is still going on... As many of you know I am in Copenhagen for a teaching internship in a private school called "International school of Hellerup" as an intern "teacher".       Firstly, let me tell you how I find the school and other details of the internship. I have been searching for a summer internship from March and one of my friends who have been working as an intern there recommended me this school, after what I have written an email to request for an internship, and there my journey begins... After a short interview I've been accepted and they requested from me several documents like "criminal record" and "child abuse record" which was very surprising for me then I searched that Denmark and all the Nordic countries do not accept teachers who have not these two records. Which is very interesting beca...

“Authentic Materials in Education” Webinar with Mrs.Paulina Andruszkiewicz-Glińska

On Monday the 16th of May we had another webinar with Mrs.Paulina, it was our second webinar with her and the topic was "Authentic materials in education". Authentic material is  any material written in English that was not created for intentional use in the English language classroom . Using this content to teach the English language can make the learning process even more engaging, imaginative and motivating for students. The presenter also said that   authentic material are everywhere, which makes it easy to find, and simple for learners to practice English in their own time. Remember that it isn’t limited to articles from newspapers and magazines. Songs, tv shows,  radio and podcasts, leaflets, menus – anything written in English constitutes authentic material. She has given several examples as toothpaste and asked how and where we can use it. Many of our groupmates had ideas as hygiene, shopping and etc. There I thought how limited I am thinking, because w...

Reflection on Arts & Crafts Webinar

At the beginning of the semester in March, we had a webinar on arts and crafts, when I heard the topic I was so happy for the webinar. As for me, I can be boring but we should learn more and develop our skills for making our classes more engaging , especially with young learners they love engaging lessons. First , when the presenter had started the webinar she asked a question "What can be used in our classes to make it more engaging? Actually, I was shocked that time that in fact we can use everything that is related to our lessons. After that I am confirming for myself that really we can use everything that is connected to the lesson and we can me the class more joyful. The presenter showed us some objects and asked how these objects can be used and for what reason. She showed us how daily life objects can be transformed into something funny and useful. Moreover, not only the presenter but also my groupmates who are already teachers and are experienced had many interesting idea...
