Student Practice Reflection - Self-Evaluation 1

1A) MY POTENTIAL AS A TEACHER

My professional attitude. Am I interested in entering the teaching profession? What are my attempts to perform competently? Am I creative and flexible? Am I mature enough to work in this profession? (work under pressure, accepting criticism, being open to others’ needs)

I think student practice made me more confident in the classroom environment. At the beginning I was afraid to enter the class and shy. I was thinking how I am going to work with 1st graders if I do not have any experience with teaching at all. However, after finishing, now I realize that I got a huge piece of experience, which is making me a bit more confident in this journey. By observing the lessons and conducting them I have pinned my theoretical knowledge through practice. Each day I was worried and had stomachache before each lesson ..

Everything was not as scary as I thought and I became more relaxed in the classroom environment. I learned that this is a very responsible profession and I should work more on my skills. Throughout my practice I have learned to accept feedback and to work on the areas that were weak, and each time it became easier and easier. At first time when I conducted my first lesson it was very stressful and each lesson I was losing control of the class and my time-management did not work well but after 3rd lesson I got used to it, thanks to the mentor teacher.

Now, I think I am one step forward in my career as a teacher and this is only the start for me.

1B) ORGANISATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A DIDACTIC PROCESS

Can I form appropriate lesson goals and objectives/ select appropriate methods and teaching materials/ select appropriate forms of students’ work/ provide justification for teaching decisions? Can I motivate students? Do I provide meaningful feedback?

I think my lesson planning skills are improved and throughout practice I have noticed that there is no ideal methodology for a whole class, we should treat each student with a personalized approach and show them that we care. During practice I have noticed a lot of different kids and for me it was tough to find an approach for each of them, because there will be always students who are not interested not because you are boring but the reason are personal issues. However, I tried to find for each an individual approach and show them that they are secure in thee class. Also, from my mentor teacher I have noticed that giving feedback is very important for them, unfortunately I noticed it at the end of my practice and started late motivating them by warm words.

Finding materials were not that hard but at the beginning as I said before I did not take into the consideration that they may finish faster and I should have plan B each time.

I think I have to work and practice more, on my personal skills and in the classroom environment, however, the best is yet to come ! Never give up, because at the beginning of the year I was too pessimistic about myself , as all of my groupmates are experience teachers(85 %) and I thought that I can not make it, however working-hard and learning from experiences are helping and helped me a lot.
