PRACTICE POST 3 (CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT)
The
classroom is the place where students spend most of their time. And managing
the classroom environment is essential for both students and the teacher to
have a “comfort zone” where they feel safe and cozy. By successfully managing
the classroom, we can increase student success and create a productive and
cooperative learning environment. Classroom management is an essential part of every class and school.
In my practice classroom I have noticed that it is well-managed both in English class and besides it. The class itself is comfortable for students, they have a sit arrangement which is changing every 2 weeks (almost) I think it is to change students places and be friendly with everyone in the class. When it comes to the teacher of English, she uses classroom helpers to distribute the papers and it is important for children to learn to take a responsibility. The other method that she uses to manage the class is counting from 5 to 0, which is for calming them down, it is effective for them. The other one is classroom rules, which is generally in each class in the school. They did it as a class activity to help children to understand and to apply them. Rules are only effective when students value and
follow them. Setting effective rules can be made easy by adhering to the
following 5 traits:
1.
Simplicity: Wording of
rules should be simple, clear and easy for students to understand and follow.
2.
Isolate: In general,
classroom rules encompass the behavioral expectations from students and need to
be kept separate from other sets of rules.
3.
Clarity: Avoid setting
vague rules that can be confusing. These may be taken advantage of or
misunderstood by students.
4.
Applicable: Adhering to
rules is easier when students understand the real life examples of the good and
bad behaviors. It is best not to set rules that are ambiguous.
5.
Importance: Emphasize
the importance and need of the rules in the classroom and display them where
students can clearly see them at all times.
There are many tips to manage the class well, and it should be used to help and to have a strong relationship with them.
